This term, Year 3 have been immersing themselves in their topic on the Romans, bringing history vividly to life through hands-on learning.

As part of their studies, the children designed and created their own Roman-style shields, thinking carefully about patterns, colours, and symbols that might have been used by Roman soldiers.

To complete their learning, they took their shields outside to practise forming a tortoise formation—working together just as Roman soldiers would have done in battle. The children quickly learned the importance of teamwork and coordination as they held their shields to protect the group from incoming sponge “missiles”.
