About Richmond House School
Richmond House School is an independent preparatory school providing the highest standards of education for boys and girls aged 3 to 11 years.
The school is ideally situated in the leafy suburbs of Far Headingley, North Leeds, only 3 miles away from Leeds City Centre and close to the main commuter routes to Harrogate and Bradford. The school boasts extensive facilities, including 10 acres of sports fields, an adventure playground, tennis courts, an Outdoor Learning area with an outdoor classroom and a large private car park.
What makes Richmond House School special is the warm, caring and happy atmosphere. Our school building is situated in three converted Victorian houses, linked together with a school hall, and the small classrooms and quirky structure of the building, all add to the family feel. We are a large enough community to be diverse, but small enough for everyone to know everyone else. Above all, we believe our children are happy and enjoy coming to school.
We recognise that all our pupils have different strengths and characteristics and our small class sizes allow us to identify and build on individual talents. We are a two form entry, with usually no more than 18 in each class.
Where Children Are Happy To Learn
The majority of our children join us in Nursery, where we accept children in the term they turn 3, although some children start in Reception, depending on availability. The children develop and flourish within the safe and stimulating environment of the Early Years setting, where they grow in confidence. The children in Early Years are all valuable members of the school community, using the school facilities, including the computer rooms, the Library, the sports fields, the Outdoor Learning area and the school hall. They have specialist teaching in French, PE, Drama and Music.
Lower School, years 1 and 2, continues to build on the specialist teaching of Early Years, in addition to making full use of the specialist Art, Science and DT rooms. Upper School, years 3-6, have further specialist teaching in Science and RE, and continue to flourish in independence and confidence, so they are fully prepared to move onto their chosen secondary school when the time comes.
Our highly skilled and dedicated staff is committed to giving each child the opportunity to develop into confident, hardworking, successful individuals, ready for senior school and the life beyond.
Developing personal strengths
We offer a challenging and varied curriculum, with specialist teaching in many subjects including French, Music, Science, PE and RE. Academic success is reflected in our 11+ examination results, with pupils having their choice of secondary schools and a substantial number being awarded scholarships each year.
Sport and Performing Arts is very important at Richmond House School, and every pupil is encouraged to explore and develop their personal strengths. We also have an extensive programme of Outdoor Learning and extra-curricular activities which range from chess and cookery to Lego club and jazz choir, offering something for everyone.
We offer wrap-around care, run by our staff, from 7.30am-6.00 pm which does not require pre-booking, and we also run holiday clubs on site all year round.
We are proud to be accredited by the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) and the Independent Schools’ Council (ISC). We are regularly inspected under the auspices of Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).
