Headteacher Mrs Sharon Young reflects on this week’s third annual Richmond House Mini Marathon. Inspired by the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, which passes Richmond House each year, the event saw the Richmond House community come together to complete laps of the 1km course around the school playing fields.

“Thursday’s Richmond House Mini Marathon was a great example of what makes our school community so special. It was fantastic to see so many pupils, parents and staff coming together first thing in the morning to participate, with plenty of smiles as they ran, jogged and walked their way around the course.

There was a real sense of shared purpose throughout the event. Families arrived ready to get involved, children embraced the challenge with energy and positivity, and there was plenty of encouragement from those cheering from the sidelines. It was a simple but powerful reminder of the value of coming together as a community, not only to promote healthy habits and start the day in a positive way, but also to support a cause far bigger than ourselves.

Our Mini Marathon was held in support of the Rob Burrow Centre for MND through Leeds Hospitals Charity, and I have been hugely grateful for the generosity shown by our school community. The support we received – whether through participation, donations or helping to organise the event – was exceptional. The morning reflected so much of what Richmond House is about: children and families engaging fully, supporting one another and recognising the importance of contributing to something meaningful beyond the school gates.

At the time of writing, we have raised an amazing £961 for the Rob Burrow Centre for MND through Leeds Hospitals Charity. If you would like to help us go beyond last year’s fantastic total of £1,092, you can still donate via the link below: www.justgiving.com/page/rhs-mini-marathon-2026
