High Academic Standards
The academic standards within our Nursery and Reception were described as excellent in our most recent full ISI inspection report. Our Nursery and Reception classes follow the Early Years Foundation Stage, which is split into seven areas of learning:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
For each area, there is a series of stepping stones leading to the Early Learning Goals, which provide the foundation for later achievement. By the end of the Foundation Stage, the end of Reception year, it is expected that children will have achieved the Early Learning Goals in all seven areas of learning.
Excellent Facilities and Resources
The Foundation Stage classrooms are fully equipped with a good range of learning resources and equipment including interactive whiteboards and Clevertouch Screens as well as having access to their shared outdoor area. Learning outside is a key focus of the curriculum and children make full use of the school’s adventure playground and extensive grounds.
Learning in the Foundation Stage takes place through a variety of themes and topics. Our teachers and teaching assistants plan for structured and independent activities. Children participate in adult-led activities and are given opportunities to self-initiate learning.
In addition to the specific Foundation Stage facilities, children benefit from use of the Main School’s facilities, such as the music room, ICT suite, gymnasium, outdoor learning zone and Library and have specialist lessons taught by the School’s Music, French, Outdoor Learning and PE teachers.
