Reception had a very special visitor last week as they explored their Book of the Week, The Tiger Who Came to Tea.

The children used the story to inspire lots of lovely learning across the week. In Literacy, they thought carefully about descriptive words, using what they knew from the story to talk about what the tiger looks like and how he might have been feeling after arriving at Sophie and Mummy’s house for tea. They then carried these ideas into their art, using their ever-growing fine motor skills to cut, stick and create their own cheeky tiger faces.

Of course, having a tiger in the classroom was never going to be completely straightforward! While the children were outside, the cheeky tiger crept in and ate all the snacks and was even caught on camera. So, in their next Literacy lesson, the children wrote to Headteacher Mrs Young to ask whether they could buy some more buns and biscuits for their planned tea party. Thankfully, Mrs Young came to the rescue and paid for some replacements, while the children also made sure there was a big tin of tiger food ready so it didn’t happen again!

The week finished with a very special Tiger Who Came to Tea tea party, bringing all of their learning together in a lovely celebration.
