Year 6 pupils enjoyed an engaging and memorable science lesson as Richmond House parent Mrs Freear led a hands-on heart dissection workshop as part of their learning on the human circulatory system. Drawing on her expertise, Mrs Freear guided the children through the structure and function of the heart, helping to bring their classroom studies to life.
During the session, pupils examined and dissected a pig’s heart, identifying key features and making clear links to what they had learned in lessons. Those who wished were able to handle the tissue, allowing for a deeper, practical understanding of how the heart works. Mrs Freear’s clear explanations and enthusiasm encouraged thoughtful questions and lively discussion throughout.
We are also very grateful to Dr Freimane for supporting the workshop and sharing her expertise with the pupils. Our thanks extend to Professor Quirke, whose Public Engagement Fund generously covered the costs of the workshop, making this valuable learning experience possible.
We are extremely thankful to everyone involved for giving their time, knowledge and support, helping to create a truly enriching and inspiring science experience for Year 6.
