In the lead-up to Christmas, our School Council launched a thoughtful charity initiative aimed at bringing comfort and festive cheer to elderly residents in local care homes. The idea was simple but powerful: to encourage the Richmond House community to donate small, meaningful gifts that could make a real difference to those who may feel especially isolated at this time of year.
The response from our families and staff was extraordinary. We received a large number of generous donations, a true testament to the kindness and compassion that run through our school community.
Our School Council played a central role in making this initiative such a success. They came up with the idea, designed posters, encouraged donations around the school, and carefully sorted and packaged the boxes ready for delivery. Their enthusiasm, organisation, and care for others shone through at every stage, and they should be incredibly proud of what they achieved.
One of the donation boxes was delivered to Headingley Hall Care Home, where our pupils had the special opportunity to visit and drop off the gifts themselves to residents – a meaningful and heart-warming experience for everyone involved.
The remaining boxes will be delivered to local care homes, helping residents feel remembered and valued during the festive season, as well as to STEP (Supporting the Elderly People), a local organisation supporting older people in Far Headingley and West Park Upper.
Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative. Your generosity reflects the strong sense of community at Richmond House and our shared commitment to kindness and helping others.
