Our Year 5 pupils had an incredible start to the autumn term with three brilliant sessions at The Climbing Lab in Leeds. This innovative indoor bouldering gym has been a perfect addition to our Outdoor Learning curriculum, offering challenges that push both physical and personal boundaries.
Over the course of the first half term, the children embraced every climb with enthusiasm, tackling walls of varying difficulty and supporting one another along the way. The sessions not only developed their strength, coordination, and resilience, but also encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and confidence. The energy and camaraderie in the gym were palpable, and it was wonderful to see the pupils so thoroughly engaged and motivated.
Having seen the remarkable progress our pupils have made and how much they have benefitted from these sessions, we are delighted to announce that we have secured another set of sessions, giving our Year 5 cohort even more opportunities to climb, learn, and grow.
Our Headteacher, Mrs Young, commented:
“Having grown up in the Lakes and with a lifelong love of outdoor pursuits, I know firsthand the value of physical challenges in building confidence, resilience, and problem-solving skills. My hope is that the success of Sophia and Ozzie will inspire other members of our school community to take up this exhilarating sport at a competitive level. It’s wonderful to see pupils like Ted developing such a passion for climbing – even visiting Fontainebleau, the world-renowned bouldering destination in France – and I’m excited to see where this enthusiasm might lead our pupils next.”
