We were thrilled to welcome multi-award-winning content creator, TV broadcaster, bestselling author, and founder of Honest Mum, as well as Richmond House alumni, Vicki Broadbent back to Richmond House for a special visit and reading of her new book, Greek Myths, Folktales & Legends.

Vicki, who holds fond memories of her time at Richmond House, was warmly welcomed by pupils and staff as she toured the school, met with children from Years 3 to 6, and shared an inspiring talk.

During her visit, Vicki spoke about growing up in a Greek-Cypriot family in the UK and how attending Greek school from the age of four helped her develop a deep connection with Greek language and mythology. She shared her lifelong passion for Greek myths and explained how the opportunity to write her latest book came about. Pupils were captivated as she brought the ancient stories to life, led a fun game linking modern films to classical myths, and read an extract about Atalanta: The Baby Brought Up as a Bear.

Vicki then guided pupils in creating their own modern-day Greek myths, choosing gods, goddesses, monsters, and settings, sparking a wave of creativity and laughter throughout the hall. Her energy, passion, and warmth made the session truly memorable. She also spoke fondly of her own time at Richmond House, recalling special memories and reflecting on how her school days shaped her career. The session concluded with a lively Q&A, where pupils asked insightful questions, followed by a book signing organised in partnership with The Little Bookshops in Chapel Allerton and Skipton – a wonderful local spot for families to discover new books and a love of reading together.

Reflecting on her return to Richmond House, Vicki said:

“Thank you all so much for such an enjoyable and rather emotional day for me. It was so much fun to return! The school is such a warm, safe and stimulating space, and I was so impressed by how caring and committed the teachers are, and how bright and affable the children are. They’re testament to your excellent teaching and the pastoral care you prioritise so much.”

Headteacher Mrs Young commented:

“I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Vicki for delivering such an inspiring and engaging talk to our pupils. They thoroughly enjoyed meeting her, hearing about her journey, and learning more about Greek myths, folklore, and legends. With so many of our pupils passionate about reading and storytelling, meeting someone who once sat where they are now, and has gone on to achieve such success in the literary world, was truly inspiring. We can’t wait to welcome Vicki back to Richmond House again soon!”
