Year 6 enjoyed a wonderful morning stepping back in time with some wartime baking and gardening. They prepared authentic recipes such as sweet carrot cookies and potato and carrot patties, learning a range of new skills along the way – from peeling, chopping, and grating to creaming margarine and sugar. Perhaps most importantly, they also practised the all-important task of washing and drying up afterwards!
To their surprise, the children found their creations delicious – with several even asking for seconds!
As part of the experience, they also spent time in our Secret Garden, planting a variety of vegetables, continuing the wartime theme of “digging for victory.” It was a hands-on, memorable morning full of learning, teamwork, and fun.
