Year 3 recently travelled back in time on an unforgettable trip to Murton Park in York, where they stepped into the sandals of Roman recruits for the day!
Upon arrival, the children were greeted by Flavia and her husband, a Roman commander, and were swiftly transformed from modern-day pupils into peasants eager to prove themselves worthy of joining the Roman army. Through drill practice they learned how to march in formation and stand ready with shields and spears.
Their immersive experience included writing as Roman scribes, crafting clay oil lamps, and training for life in the Roman ranks. They then took part in a ceremony, followed by receiving payment from the Roman Centurion – a well-earned reward after a day of discipline and dedication.
It was a fantastic, hands-on learning experience that truly brought history to life.
