We are delighted to announce the permanent appointment of Mrs Sharon Young as Headteacher of Richmond House School.

Mrs Young has served as acting Headteacher at Richmond House through the current academic year, having previously held the roles of Deputy Headteacher, Pastoral Lead and Designated Safeguarding Lead within the school. She has taught at the Richmond House for 11 years and has held several positions of responsibility on the Senior Leadership Team throughout that time.

As a PE and Maths specialist she has taught in both Primary and Secondary Education, within the State and Independent sectors.

With an MA in Education, specialising in pedagogical psychology, she has a broad skillset which includes academic leadership, curriculum design and assessment, as well as safeguarding, pastoral and wellbeing experience.

Away from the classroom she has successfully taught numerous sports and coached teams to local, regional, and national championship victories. She holds qualifications in outdoor leadership and has organised residential trips and sports tours, both at home and abroad.

Outside of work she actively pursues several interests including sailing, skiing, walking and hockey, as well as show jumping, and will compete later this year in the British Riding Club National Finals in Arena Eventing, having qualified with victory in the Regional Finals.

Chair of Governors, Catherine Shuttleworth, said following the appointment of Mrs Young:

“It is with great pleasure that we are appointing Sharon. Throughout her time at Richmond House, she has delivered consistent excellence in the classroom, and outside of the classroom she has developed a strong pastoral ethos at every level of the organisation.

Her clear leadership style and ability to adapt to the challenges of the last few years, including delivery of remote teaching and learning, and managing the longer-term impacts of Covid on both pupils and staff, have set her up well for the position of Headteacher. We are excited to see her lead Richmond House successfully into its next chapter.”

On her appointment, Sharon commented:

“I am honoured to have been appointed permanent Headteacher of Richmond House School. I am looking forward to working alongside our high calibre staff to continue to deliver an outstanding education, that realises the unique potential of each pupil that comes through our doors. This is a wonderful community to be a part of I am very excited about being so intrinsically involved in the next chapter of this rather special school.”
