Sport
We are very fortunate to have over 10 acres of sports fields and outdoor areas at Richmond House School, providing a wonderful platform for our Early Years children to experience sport and the outdoors. Starting in Nursery, the children receive a weekly PE lesson taught by our specialist PE Teacher. The Nursery and Reception children benefit from lessons in PE, dance and movement and Gymnastics, as well as learning the fundamental skills for games such as rugby, netball, football and hockey, to prepare them for life in KS1.
The children regularly use our Adventure Playground to help to develop their gross motor skills, balance, agility, the confidence to climb and to assess risk. The children in Nursery and Reception also take part in the whole school Sports Day in the Summer Term.
Outdoor Learning
Our Outdoor Learning zone includes a yurt classroom, excavation area and a fire pit. Early Years have weekly outdoor learning lessons, where curriculum subjects such as Maths and Art are taught in an outdoor environment to stimulate learning and creativity. Activities this year have looked at shapes and animal habitats. Reception even built their own pirate ship as part of their topic on Pirates.
French
The children have weekly French lessons from Nursery in which French words and phrases are taught to children through stories, practical activities and song.
Music and Drama
Early Years have weekly music lessons with our specialist music teacher who teaches the basic principles of rhythm and song, preparing the children for learning instruments as they move through school. Every Christmas both Nursery and Reception put on their own performances which are often the highlight of the year for many parents. They also participate in Harvest and Christmas Concerts, prize giving and whole school events.
Extra-Curricular Activities
We have recently introduced a weekly ballet lesson for all Early Years children. We also offer after school clubs such as Construction, Fun with Food, Football and Gymnastics for our Reception children.
