This year for the first time, Richmond House School have run a first aid skills day for all of their pupils from Reception through to Year 6. Carnegie Coach Education, part of Leeds Beckett University came into school for the day and taught a number of sessions on age appropriate first aid techniques.

The children were taught basic skills including calling emergency services and putting patients in the recovery position. The older children in Years 5 and 6 learnt essential life-saving skills such as CPR and learning how to use a defibrillator.

By preparing and teaching children these skills from a very young age, it could make a real difference in an emergency, as well as equipping them with confidence and knowledge to be used and developed later in life.
