March 2008
Dear
Parents
We
send our congratulations and very best wishes to Miss Turner (Nursery
Assistant) who gave birth to Annie Rose, 7lb 5oz, on Saturday.
Open
Evening
Thank
you to all those children and parents who were able to help out with
and/or attend our Open Evening. Many of our Year 6 children were complimented
as excellent tour guides and ambassadors for the school, Mrs Sutherland
has several converts to Tai Chi and the weather did not put off visitors
to the school.
BHF
Sponsor Forms
This
week all pupils have participated in a British Heart Foundation Sponsored
Skip and have demonstrated a huge number of skills, including various
jumps over a rope, skipping with hoops, various skipping jumps while
skipping, doubles skipping and long-rope skipping.
We
are now collecting sponsor money and would appreciate your help in
encouraging your son/daughter to collect the money as soon as possible.
The sponsor form and money should be returned to
your child’s form teacher by Wednesday 19th March.
Illness
If
your child has been sick, we respectfully request that you do keep
them off school for 48 hours afterwards, even if they seem fit. This
is to ensure that infections are not passed on, either to other children,
or to members of staff.
On
a child’s return from absence, an explanatory note should be
handed in at the office, please. We are obliged to keep these notes
for our records.
Art
Focus Day
Our
thanks go to Mrs Edwards for organising a most interesting visit from
Peter Wengraf, yesterday. He brought with him a selection of African
artefacts which the children were able to draw, and I am sure that
any parents who were able to visit the exhibition in the hall at the
end of the day would agree that the children had produced some excellent
pencil sketches, looking carefully at the objects and learning a great
deal in the process.
Health
and Fitness Week
Thanks
also must go to Mrs Milne, who, with assistance from Mrs Blackie,
has put a great deal of time and effort into organising a super Health
and Fitness Week. We have had visits from tutors and students at Carnegie
to give us some ideas on being more active - ask your children about
‘Jean, Jean the Dancing Machine’ ! Year 5 and 6 have also
visited Carnegie to participate in circuit-style activities, and all
the children have been taking part in their sponsored skips, raising
money for the British Heart Foundation.
Hopefully
we will be able to give you an idea of the amount we have raised on
next week’s newsletter, along with the winner of Mrs Blackie’s
‘Guess the Vegetable’ Competition!
Swimming
Gala
All
pupils in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 will take part in our Inter-House Swimming
Gala on the morning of Thursday 20th March, at Carnegie. All pupils
will walk to and from the pool and will need to bring a bag containing
their swimming costume/swimming shorts, 2 towels, goggles and swimming
hat (if required). Pupils may wish to have one towel which is their
house colour, which they can have on poolside. Their bag must be large
enough to fit in all their uniform while they are swimming.
Unfortunately,
due to lack of space, it is not possible for parents to come to watch
but you may be able to hear the cheering in Headingley and we are
sure that the children will tell you all about it at the end of the
day!
Match
Results
This
week has been a disappointing week for our footballers as matches
against Moorlands and Westville House were cancelled because of the
waterlogged pitches.
Our
netballers were still able to play and the U11’s beat Moorlands
13-7. The U9’s and U10’s had very close games against
Leeds Girls, with the U10’s losing 5-7 and the U9’s drawing
1-1. A very good effort.
Inter-House
Matches
Inter-house
hockey and rugby matches will take place on Wednesday 19th March,
but players involved in those matches will be finished by the usual
end of school.
Kit
As
pupils bring all their belongings home for the holidays, please would
you check the names and return any item belonging to someone else
which has accidentally ended up in the wrong bag.
Please
could pupils return any football team kit, cross country shirts or
white team sweatshirts that they have in their possessions.
End
of term notices
There
will be no clubs next week as it is the last week of term.
Term
finishes this coming Thursday 20th March at 3.35 p.m. School opens
for the children’s return on Tuesday 8th April when we look
forward to welcoming Mrs Disley as our incoming head.
