Dear Parents

I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. It was lovely to see the children arriving back this week, full of excitement at sharing news from their holidays, and anticipation of the exciting events that this term has to offer. I am looking forward to my role as Acting Headteacher this term, and will be working in close consultation with Mrs Disley, the staff and the governors of Richmond House in order to ensure a smooth transition for Easter when Mrs Disley joins us as our Headteacher.

Parents’ Consultations

Consultations are for every child, as there are no written reports this term. If the chosen date proves impossible for you, your child’s form teacher will try to see you at another mutually convenient time, which should be arranged directly with the form teacher.

Some parents of children further up the school may be interested to note that there will also be an evening when specialist teachers, other than those who teach their children within the form, will be available. Please be assured that if any of these teachers had a concern regarding your child, or felt that there was something that you needed to know about their progress in that subject, they will already have informed the form teachers in time for them to discuss with you at the form teacher appointment. Please, therefore, do not feel that it is necessary to attend this evening, but do come if you have a particular point of concern or interest with one of the teachers involved.

That particular evening will not run on an appointment system. If you did have more than one teacher to whom you would particularly like to speak, we ask that you arrive no later than 4.30pm, to allow for a 5.15 pm finish on this evening.

I will be in attendance at all meetings and look forward to speaking with you in due course. Dates and times are as follows. Please contact the office as soon as possible to book your appointment. Reminders will be issued as the term progresses.

Health

The vast majority of children and staff seem to be healthy at the moment, but as there is a nasty bug going around at the moment, we have taken the opportunity to reinforce the importance of hand washing as an element of keeping ourselves healthy.

Could we also please ask, if you are in any doubt about your child’s fitness for school, that they be kept away from school, to give them the chance to become well again and also so that other children are not exposed to illnesses within the school environment. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

It would also be appreciated if you could check your child’s medicine’s expiry dates.

Calendar

You may have noticed an error on our calendar this term: Summer Term ends on Tuesday 8th July and not March! The visit to Bradford Industrial Museum on 15th January is for the Reception classes and not Year 1 as was originally stated.

Car Parking

Following on from last term, please remember the following:

  • Do not park up the back lane.

  • Do not park in the staff car park.

  • Park sympathetically to residents and entrances on Glen Road.

  • Preferably park on Weetwood Lane or Ancaster Avenue.

Please also be aware that the Highways Department has decided to implement some temporary parking restrictions to ensure emergency vehicles can access Glen Road, if necessary.  These are due to take effect some time in January and we anticipate being in place for up to 9 months until a permanent solution is agreed with the school, residents and other interested parties.

Please just remember at all times to park legally, safely and sympathetically.  Thank you!

Dear Parents, Boys and Girls

I am grateful for this opportunity to thank you all so much for the wonderful send off you gave me at the end of last term.  I was truly touched by all your lovely cards, letters and gifts.  Thank you also to everyone who contributed towards my gift of a large flatscreen television which was presented at the governors’ dinner.  Your generosity and kindness are very much appreciated.

I wish you all a very happy, healthy and successful 2008.

SPORT

Cross Country

In the holidays, the cross country teams raced in the third Leeds Schools’ League race of the season at Nunroyd Park.  There were excellent results, especially from Amelia Crump who came 4th and Louise Marsden who came 12th in the girls’ race out of 108 runners and in the boys’ race Harrison Brown-Raw who came 13th and James Micklethwaite who came 19th out of the 116 runners.  Overall our girls’ team came 5th out of 21 schools and our boys 9th out of the 22 schools that took part.

On Saturday 12th January, our cross country teams are in action again in the Leeds Schools’ Championships at Beckett Park.  Good luck!

U9 Matches

On Thursday 17 January, our U9s will have their first matches of the season with mixed unihoc teams playing against Cliff School.  The matches will be played at home starting at 2.20pm and team players may be collected as usual at the end of school.
