Dear Parents

Year 6 pupils are in the process of receiving their entrance examination results from the senior schools. I will let you know how they have done after half term but, at this stage, we are delighted with the results that are coming through and with the feedback from senior school heads. We are also proud of the way that the children have handled these last few weeks, working hard but remaining cheerful.

At the time of writing, many of our Upper School children are looking forward to their cultural visit to London this weekend. They will leave from school on Friday morning, returning on Sunday having been to the Natural History Museum, the London Eye, seen ‘The Sound of Music’ and done lots of other exciting things in between.

Year 2 Parents’ Consultations
The second date for these consultations is Thursday 7 February. Books will be set out in the children’s classrooms. Mrs Wetherop will see parents in the 1J classroom, and Mrs Mayes will see parents in the Library. If you have not yet made an appointment, please speak with the Office on Monday.

Chess
Good luck to our chess team who will play their first league match against Froebelian on Monday, after school. The children selected to attend the match are:

Soutrik Basu Rachel Dixon Thomas Lenton
Christofer Christoforou Lewis Hemingway Joshua Lesak
Jonathan Desilva Mark Kelly Andrew Marsden

Animals and Safety
We would respectfully ask that dogs are not brought onto the school grounds before or after the school day. Some children may have allergies to animals and some people are frightened of or nervous around dogs. Although we have had some animals at school, such as new puppies and baby rabbits, these animals have been carried and have often been brought by prior arrangement.
We must not have dogs, even on leads, walking around the school premises, please.

ASDA Go Green for Schools Scheme 2008
After receiving many useful resources from ASDA’s environmental scheme last year, we are participating again this year with a collecting box in reception. When we shop at ASDA, we will receive vouchers if we do not use new carrier bags but reuse old ones or purchase a Bag for Life. The scheme runs until the end of March. We will then be able to exchange our vouchers for educational resources. Thank you in advance for your participation in this scheme.

Swimming Gala
All Upper School pupils will be participating in the inter house swimming gala at Carnegie in the morning of Thursday 20 March. More details will be given nearer the time.

Match Results
Although we lost our netball matches against Wakefield Girls’, our U10s and U11s put in an excellent effort. “Their umpire even shook my hand.” (Aoife Jackson)
We had more success on Wednesday with our U10 netballers winning 9-4 and our U11s winning 18-2 against Gateways.
Our U11 footballers had a convincing 7-0 win over Ripon Cathedral Choir School. Our U10s then played the same Ripon team but lost 0-4.
The U9 football team’s match against Ghyll Royd was played indoors due to their waterlogged pitches. We were in the lead until about five minutes before the final whistle but, unfortunately, could not manage to hold on. The boys were all amazed to find that while they had played indoors, about 5cm of snow had fallen outside. A good effort from all our players.

Next Week’s Matches
On Wednesday 6 February, our U10 and U11 hockey teams are competing against Westville House at home, starting at 2.20pm. Players may be collected as usual at the end of school.
On Thursday 7 February, our U9 netball and football teams will play Moorlands at home, starting at 2.30pm. These players may be collected from the pavilion after match tea at about 3.45pm.

Good luck to these teams!
