SUMMER TERM 2009 - YEAR 3

Mathematics
Following on from measuring we will be looking at perimeter and area. We will be covering money and data handling. We will continue to review the four rules of number, including problem solving and we will revisit time.

English
Descriptive writing, poetry, letters, factual writing, compound words, pronouns and time sequence.

Science
The topics for the term are Colour and Light, followed by Magnets and Springs.

History
We will continue to explore the Romans in Britain, looking at the army, town and country life. During our visit to Hadrian's Wall we will be investigating archaeological evidence through a range of activities.

Geography
We will be looking at maps and plans, four and eight point compass directions, half and quarter turns and grid references. We will go on to investigate geographical features and a detailed study of a UK locality, for example Llandudno in Wales.

Religious Education
Bible stories and Faith.

French
TBC

ICT
The children will complete their work using simple databases and begin to use e-mail. They will use simple music software to communicate musical ideas.

Art
Pupils will study portraiture in relation to their family and themselves. They will use their imagination to develop drawings into collage and possibly three dimensional images. Block painting will be explored.

Physical Education
In games the pupils will all practise throwing, catching and batting skills. Boys will play cricket and softball while the girls will play rounders and tennis. In PE they will do athletics and tennis skills.

The pupils will continue to practise their strokes and water skills and will also learn basic water safety including doing a reaching and a throwing rescue.

Design Technology
We will be designing a toy which will be powered by cams.

Music
Pentatonic scales, including ‘Old MacDonald had a glock’. Children will also learn to sing to backing tracks, and learn about music from the 1940’s and 1950’s.

PSHE
We will finish our work on keeping healthy and will investigate organisational skills and relationships.
