Mathematics
The children will continue to undertake problem solving work and investigations.
There will be work involving reading different scales, data handling
and sorting. We will continue to learn how to use calculators. Practical
maths activities including measuring, weighing and capacity work.
They will consolidate x ÷ work (x2, x3, x4, x5, x10)
English
Their written work will include story writing, poems, lists, letter
writing and writing instructions. We will also consolidate the punctuation
and grammar rules taught in the previous two terms. They will continue
to develop their joined-up writing. Weekly group reading activities.
Science
The children will be involved in investigative work relating to electricity
and magnetism. They will also undertake practical experiments relating
to forces and movement. There will be a visit to the National Railway
Museum.
History
The children will study the impact of the Fire of London and Samuel
Pepys' Diary. They will examine the life of George Stevenson.
Geography
The children will be developing their map work skills. They will also
undertake a study of the local school environment and examine life
in a village, a town and a city in the British Isles.
Religious
Education
The children will be learning about the main aspects of the religious
beliefs of Sikhism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity.
ICT
In addition to extending the word processing skills of the children,
we will continue to use data packages and graphics software. The children
will have the opportunity to find information using a selection of
interactive CD-ROMs, particularly Junior Explorer.
Art
Children will be looking at paintings and contrasting the information
they find in each one. They will explore the extension of detail into
a wider area and sequencing. Pupils will experiment with creating
mood with different paint techniques using clay as a medium to explore
cased items.
Physical
Education
In games we are learning basic cricket and rounders skills and in
the PE lessons we will be doing athletics and tennis.
Design
Technology
We will be looking at assembling a simple electric circuit and designing
a lighthouse to incorporate it.
Music
Work from last term will be completed. Additional songs for enjoyment
will be added from musicals such as “Mary Poppins”.
PSHE
This term we will continue work about my body, keeping healthy and
keeping safe. We will discuss ways in which the children might be
able to make the most of their abilities and what it means to be a
good citizen.
