Mathematics
The children will be undertaking work in the following areas: Place
Value and ordering numbers to 100 and estimating and rounding. Mental
arithmetic skills will be developed including number facts, doubles
and halves. We will extend times tables to include 3 and 4 times and
division and multiplication. Other topics are symmetry, fractions,
money using £ sign, measuring length and weight, time, including
digital, clockwise and anti-clockwise, right angles and rotating shapes.
English
The children will continue to develop their Literacy skills through
the following activities: daily reading from the reading scheme books
and class library, speaking and listening in drama lessons, creative
writing using a story planner, report writing, recording information
and instruction writing. They will also work on grammar, punctuation,
comprehension and dictionary tasks. We will develop joined-up handwriting
and group reading using fiction and non-fiction books.
Science
The children will undertake scientific investigation in the following
areas: materials and their properties (physical processes) reversible
and irreversible change e.g. chocolate, water and wax. We will also
examine Health and Growth and keeping ourselves healthy. A visit to
the Eureka Children’s Museum will take place.
History
The children will continue to develop their sense of chronological
awareness through the study of castle life. They will look at the
changing role of the castle, knights, armour, siege weapons and heraldry.
We will also study the lives and influences of a selection of famous
people. (Louis Braille, Alexander Graham Bell, Florence Nightingale,
Mary Seacole, Samuel Pepys and Grace Darling. Florence Nightingale
Theatre visit. Visits to Skipton Castle and the Royal Armouries.
Geography
The children will study the Mexican village of Toucaro and they will
compare and contrast lifestyles in the United Kingdom. Mexican activity
day in school.
Religious
Education
The theme this term is courage. The children will examine this theme
with reference to stories from the Old Testament e.g. Abraham, Daniel,
Joseph, Moses and Jonah. They will also look at the celebrations of
Passover and Easter.
ICT
The children will use a graphics package to create pictures. They
will continue to build on their word processing skills, using information
and writing stories. They will sequence events, use the correct punctuation
for a range of sentence types and write accounts to support other
curriculum areas. Autonomous use of the computer equipment will be
encouraged to support the whole curriculum.
Art
We will develop imagination of events around an image and development
of an understanding of sequencing through drawing. We will also study
foreground and background. Looking at camoflage in nature.
Physical
Education
This term pupils will continue to develop their gymnastics skills
and will perform short sequences of different actions. In games they
will continue to concentrate on the basic skills required for football,
hockey, rugby and netball
Design
Technology
The children will be looking at structures and stability within this
project. They will be designing and making a castle keep using wood
and card triangles. They will be concentrating on measuring and sawing,
as well as designing their castle using two different projections.
Music
Roof Top Cat. The stimulus for all work is associated with a cat called
Roof Top. Included is graphic scoring and note reading, pitch discrimination
and some basic composition.
Singing
is based upon Big Momma by Debbie Campbell; a short cantata about
elephant conversation.
PSHE
We will be looking at the following areas during the year: Rules and
Laws, My Body, Keeping Healthy, Me and My Relationships, Keeping Safe
and Making the Most of My Abilities. We will look particularly at
Healthy Living and My Body.
