Mathematics
This term the children will study the analogue clock, money and measuring.
The ongoing work includes comparing and ordering numbers, even and
odd, ordinal numbers and problem solving.
English
Weekly spellings continue with the development of initial double consonants
and medial vowel diagraphs. The children continue to develop sentence
construction using different styles of writing. Support for reading
and handwriting continues as previously.
Science
The children will investigate the topic of sound. We shall also explore
the properties of water and find out what animals need in order to
survive. Emphasis will be placed on animal life cycles.
History
We will consider how water was used as a source of power in the past.
Geography
The children will be involved in recognising and recording different
types of weather and learning about the water cycle.
Religious
Education
We will learn about the story of Noah and his family. We will learn
about the baptism of Jesus and find out about Jewish and Christian
beliefs and practices. The term finishes looking at the story of the
first Easter.
Art
The children will make observational drawings. They will develop painting
and collage techniques. 3D animals will be made from clay. Easter
crafts will also be included.
Physical
Education
Pupils will be concentrating on improving their gymnastics skills
and will practice balances on different body parts and in different
shapes. In dance pupils will learn some folk dances from around the
world. In indoor games they will continue to practise basic ball skills
using a range of equipment.
Design
Technology
The children will construct a clock which has a mouse that moves using
a belt drive. They will design and make a wishing well with a simple
turning mechanism.
Music
Topics will include looking at the Recorder family. The children will
learn to play B, A and G on descant recorder and read corresponding
traditional notation in simple values, including notes and rests.
The
singing will include “The Bumblesnouts Save the World”
by Debbie Campbell, which is an ecological work to encourage the children
to care for their world.
PSHE
We shall discuss the safe use of medicines, growing up, and what makes
a good friend.
