SPRING TERM 2009 - RECEPTION

Mathematical Development
Consolidation of work already begun and, additionally, coin recognition, addition, counting in two’s, ordinal numbers, subtraction, telling the time (o’clock) and capacity work.

Communication, Language and Literacy
Continuation of work from the Autumn Term plus consonant blends, word building activities, recognition and naming of upper case letters and ordering letters of the alphabet.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
In the first half term, Moving/Transport will be the topic, followed by Growth.

Creative Development
Dance, role play (baby-clinic/vet’s surgery), painting, printing, clay, collage.

Music
This term, Reception will study sorting and matching skills in Music. They will consider the similarities and differences of sounds in a practical and creative way through imitation, movement and sets. The activities mainly develop aural awareness and discrimination. In singing, the children will learn a short cantata, ‘Dumble the Dinosaur, or How Chocolate was First Invented’.

Physical Development
In PE, the children will practise a range of gymnastic skills using a variety of apparatus, increasing awareness of change of direction and level. In indoor games, they will be set challenges to develop their confidence in using different equipment.

PSHE
The main theme will be Me and My Relationships. We will talk about the need to take responsibility for ourselves, to recognise the needs and feelings of others and how to care for other people and pets.
