AUTUMN TERM 2008 - YEAR 3

Mathematics
We will study time, analogue and digital, 2D and 3D, right angles and symmetry. Revision, reinforcement and continuation of work done in Year 2 will be done, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

English
We will be looking at reports, recounts, stories with familiar settings, poems based on observations and the senses, traditional stories and shape poems.

Science
The first topic is teeth and eating. We will learn how to keep our teeth healthy and how teeth are adapted to suit the diet of an animal. The second topic this term is characteristics of materials.

History
We begin with Ancient Egypt – the River Nile, farming, pyramids, tombs and Pharoahs.

Geography
The world, Europe and the British Isles are the main focus.

Religious Education
This term covers looking at the importance of signs and symbols and aspects of the Divali Festival.

ICT
Looking at the Internet to retrieve information, using Microsoft Word, Word Art, Clip Art will be introduced, and becoming more familiar with the keyboard will be encouraged throughout the year.

French

Art
Looking for pattern. Enlarging shapes. Use of dyes in the Batik process.

Design Technology
Safety aspects of tools – each child will have to demonstrate how to use them with care. A visit to a maze at Ilkley prior to designing and making a maze game.

Physical Education
Girls: Hockey/netball
Boys: Football/rugby
Swimming – increase confidence in the water and improve water skills. Introduce/improve basic strokes.
Dance – use different stimuli to produce ‘Machine’ dances.
Gymnastics – develop and improve jumping skills

Music
We will be exploring descriptive sounds using ‘Animal Music’ as a stimulus.

PSHE
We will be looking at rules nod laws – class rules, dining hall rules, circle time rules and also personal rules and beliefs. We will also think about keeping safe – indoors and outside.
