AUTUMN TERM 2008 - YEAR 6

Mathematics
Work covers fractions, decimals, area. Volume, angles and shape work, metric and imperial measurements, all kinds of graphs.

English
Through our topic on the ‘Supernatural’ we shall learn about creating an atmosphere, sequencing and predicting, inferring from texts. We shall also be using figurative language and writing playscripts. Work on grammar and punctuation and script writing will be done.

Science
Children will learn how animals and plants are adapted to survive different conditions. During the second half of term, they will learn about micro-organisms and different forces.

History
Our topic will be The Victorians.

Geography
Rivers and the water cycle will be studied.

French
Still using songs and games, we’ll build on the French we have already learned. We’ll learn how to tell the time in French and talk about clothes. This year we will be learning about different regions of France.

Religious Education
Worship and the community and the role of the Mosque.

ICT
The children will learn more advanced techniques using Microsoft Powerpoint. They will have the opportunity to use their skills to put together a project of their choice. Alongside this, they will continue to develop their skills in searching the Internet and using a variety of multimedia elements. Basic skills, such as folder organisation and touch typing, will be covered.

Art
The human figure – proportion. Artistic licence to re-interpret form.

Physical Education
We will develop a range of actions and balances in pairs.
Girls: Hockey and netball
Boys: Football and rugby
We will produce short dances from a range of stimuli

Design Technology
We will be designing and making a vehicle with a timber chassis.

Music
Preparation for song composition, including song writing skills. Musical composition skills including the formation and use of chords in music. Consolidation of ‘band’ skills learnt last year.
Singing will include pieces in preparation for Harvest and Christmas celebrations.

PSHE
We will be looking at the following areas during the year: Rules and Laws, My Body, Keeping Healthy, Me and My Relationships, Keeping Safe, and Making the Most of My Abilities.
