Mathematical
Development
We will work on recognising, writing and counting reliably up to 10
and, when appropriate, beyond. We will learn about block graphs, repeating
patterns, weighing and measuring and recognition of 2D shapes.
Communication,
Language and Literacy
We will develop reading and writing skills including recognising initial
letter sounds and blends. We shall develop an awareness of rhyme.
We will encourage the correct pencil grip so that numbers and letter
s can be formed correctly.
Knowledge
and Understanding of the World
This area covers Science, History, Geography and Religious Education.
It is taught through integrated topics.
We
start with Keeping Healthy and move onto the senses.
Creative
Development
Dance, role play (home corner/doctor’s surgery), painting, printing,
clay, collage and scissor skills will be developed.
Music
Musical skills are encouraged and developed throughout the year. The
children build on the skills that are learnt in Nursery, looking at
all elements of pitch, duration, dynamics, texture, timbre and form.
Simple graphic score reading is introduced and the children learn
a short cantata, performing it with dance, drama and actions. In the
Spring Term, the children will use a well known story to establish
important links between Music and Literacy.
Physical
Development
We shall increase the children’s confidence in performing basic
travel actions on the floor and apparatus in gymnastics, developing
skills using a variety of equipment. The adventure playground will
be used regularly to enhance physical development throughout the year.
PSHE
We will be examining the following areas during the year:
Rules and Laws
My Body
Keeping Healthy
ICT
ICT is integrated into every subject area. The children will explore
a selection of software and extend their knowledge of ICT and its
uses and use every day technology throughout the year.
In
Spring Term, the children will use software to support work on Phonics,
Patterns, Rhymes and increase their understanding of numerals up to
10 and beyond. The CD ROMS will support and motivate children through
an activity by requesting and rewarding actions on the screen related
to a specific learning objective.
In
the Summer Term, they will use objects such as the digital camera,
with adult support. They will practise and refine their skills using
programs such as a drawing package.
